How to install Raid 5 on Dahua Camera DVR – Kbvision

Hi guys, in the process of using the DVR to store camera data, suddenly 1 day the hard drive on the recorder is damaged and all data is lost, making you unable to review important data when needed, so today I will guide you to install the Raid 5 mechanism on the camera recorder of You let your data be protected as safely as possible in the following article. Note that Raid is only supported on some high-end recorder models, as in this article I use the Dahua NVR-1-EI recorder, to know exactly if your recorder is supporting Raid, you can call the company’s technician to check correctly.

I. What is Raid?

RAID (Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks) is a form of combining multiple physical hard drives into one hard disk drive system that increases the speed of reading / writing data or to increase the safety of data stored on the disk system or a combination of both.
 
In terms of classification, there are many types of Raid used such as Raid 0, Raid 1, Raid 3, Raid 4, Raid 5, Raid 10, etc. In today’s article to learn about Raid, I will introduce and guide you to install Raid 5 on the camera recorder

II. How Raid 5 works

RAID 5 is an improved redundant storage system compared to RAID 1 and RAID 0. With 3 or 5 separate hard disks, data and backups are divided equally onto all hard drives. However, this principle is quite complicated. Example of 8 data fragments (1-8) and 3 hard disk drives: data fragments 1 and 2 are written to drives 1 and 2, backup fragments are written to drive 3.
 
Fragments 3 and 4 are written to drive 1 and 3, with the backup fragment writing to drive 2 respectively. Fragments 5 and 6 are written to drives 2 and 3, while backup fragments are written to drive 1. Then this sequence repeats with paragraphs 7, 8 written to drive 1, 2, and the backup fragment written to drive 3. Thus, RAID 5 ensures improved speed and high safety. The final capacity of the system is equal to the total capacity of hard disks minus one drive. For example, if you use 3 2TB drives, the final capacity will be 4TB.

III. Steps to install Raid 5 on Camera recorder

Step 1: Go to Settings -> Stograge

Step 2: Go to RAID -> select Type Raid 5 then check the 3 hard drives you need to create Raid -> Manual Create -> Click OK

Check Status successfully created RAID 5 for 3 drives at port 1-3-5

Step 3: Create Hot Standby (Hot backup – in case 1 or 3 drives running RAID 5 fail, the hard drive in the Hot Standby section will be included to replace the damaged drive to help our data always be safe)

  • Các bạn vào mục Hot Standby -> Modify -> Chọn Private Hot Space -> Add to MDO (tên Raid ổ đã tạo) -> OK

 

Check Status Successfully Created Hot Standby for Raid Name Md0
